Excitement and nervousness are the most common feelings before someone does a boudoir shoot. “You’re the first person other than my husband to see me almost naked in awhile.”, one of my clients would say to me. Literally everyone will go through these same exact feelings when they first step in front of the camera for boudoir. I think it would be strange if they didn’t! I mean you are literally stripping down to your knickers in front of a stranger! However, those feelings will quickly subside as soon as our session begins. I always promise my clients, give me about 10-15 minutes and you will start to feel at ease. It also helps if we’ve met or Skyped before our shoot to help break the ice sooner. As my subjects start to understand the posing flow and what is expected of them, that’s when they begin to let their guard down, getting more comfortable with me and the camera and that is when we start to create the magic in the photos.
See the thing with boudoir is it’s nothing like one would think it is. You don’t have to know what to do or put on some cheesy vixen act for the camera. It’s really so technical. I guide my subjects into every pose from where their eyes should look, how their fingers should lay, all the way down to how their toes are pointing. I’m just giving direction after direction keeping my subjects so busy, they quickly forget their nerves. In fact some poses end up feeling like you’re in a pilates class. It might not “feel” sexy, but it’s going to look sexy as hell. All you gotta do is put your trust in me.
